Pleased to share my involvement as a mental health expert in the book “Raising Stars,” authored by Rashmi Uchil. This book represents eight years of research and commitment, offering an intimate glimpse into the lives of Bollywood parents. It’s truly a labor of love that peels back the curtain on a side of Bollywood that’s rarely seen by the public.

During the book launch, I had the privilege of joining panelists Yukta Mookhey and Madhu Shah. The discussion was aptly moderated by Shalini Vikrant. We discussed significant topics like polarized parenting, helicopter parenting, and bullying—issues that are crucial for both professionals and parents as they navigate the complexities of raising children today.

“Raising Stars” includes perspectives from renowned Bollywood figures, including Javed Akhtar, Sunil Shetty, Sushmita Sen, Mahima Chaudhary, Boman Irani, Nandita Das, Chunky Pandey, and Jackie Shroff. Each contributes personal anecdotes about the challenges of parenting in the public eye.

Starting this project with Rashmi eight years ago, we aimed to explore and reveal the private struggles of Bollywood parents. Rashmi’s journey was incredibly hands-on— from tirelessly contacting managers to securing candid interviews with celebrities, and from overseeing the editing process to finding the right publisher. Her relentless pursuit to bring these stories to light deserves immense admiration.

The collective effort and genuine contributions from all the experts involved have made this book not only informative but also inspiring. “Raising Stars” delves into the complexities and challenges of Bollywood, reflecting the resilience and commitment required in parenting, regardless of one’s background.

I hope that readers will find “Raising Stars” as informative and engaging as we did in creating it. It serves as a reminder of the shared experiences that unite us in the journey of parenthood.
